Alliance

The Alliance is one of the two human major powers in known space. It is a colossal collection of worlds and rules over around half of human space. It is unknown as to how it was formed or how old it is. Its most recent history involves the Alliance-Syndicate War and the aftermath.

History[]

Founding[]

The Alliance was founded several decades after the invention of the jump drive on the frontier of human space as a means of mutual defence against hostile colonies like Apulu, Scatha, and Turan. The alliance started with Glenlyon and Kosatka and grew to include several other systems like Adowa, Benten, Catalan, and Éire. A key figure in securing the alliance is Lochan Nakamura, who convinced the governments of Adowa, Benten, Catalan, and Éire to agree to a mutual defense treaty.

Alliance-Syndicate War[]

First engagements[]

One of the war's opening engagements occurred in the uninhabited but important transit corridor star system of Grendel, along the Alliance-Syndicate border. Grendel was a minor military target compared to targets like Varandal. The war is believed by various people, including John Geary, to have been provoked in part by the enigma race as a ploy to weaken and distract both human factions.

Following the Battle of Grendel and the successful rear-guard action of Geary's detachment, John Geary was turned from an ordinary man to a hero of the Alliance. The first strike failed to either penetrate deeper into Alliance space or to destroy the transports in the convoy being protected by Merlon. The battle's strategic consequences were ultimately minor, but it served as a major propaganda victory for the Alliance who claimed the Syndicate as the aggressors and how hard their crews had fought.

Progression of the War[]

Thanks to increasing Geary-related propaganda, officers in the Alliance began valuing aggression and honor over strategy and discipline. This resulted in increasing casualties on both sides of the war. Ships began being built with shorter and shorter lifespans and dying officers were replaced with young, inexperienced officers making matters only worse. As the Syndicate launched increasing attacks on Alliance planets, further enraging Alliance citizens and causing many Alliance officers to begin dishonorably executing Syndicate prisoners.

Military[]

The Alliance has the most powerful naval force in human controlled space, the Alliance Navy. The military also comprises of the Marines, which operates closely with the Fleet, the Alliance Ground Forces, and the Aerospace Defense Force. Each one has their own chain of command and relations between them is strained at best. Only the marines operates closely with the Fleet.

Old Earth and the Sol System[]

In the early days of the Alliance, it's navy was mostly made up of the old ships purchased from Earth Fleet. Before the war with the Syndicate the Alliance would send a Capital Ship to the Sol System every ten years for celebrations. During the War the only contact the Alliance had with the Sol System Authorities was when ships were sent to build a Hypernet gate.

The Old Colonies[]

The Alliance's relationships with the Old Colonies is unknown, only that some of the colonies that made up the Alliance bought some of their warships and ground forces gear from the Old Colonies.
